Is a picture worth a thousand words? In today’s world of mass communication, it really does pay to communicate your messages visually as well as verbally for increased impact.
Our brains are hard- wired to decipher visual images quickly, while we take longer to process text and languages. Graphic facilitation allows you to capture the ‘goldust’ in your messages, turning the verbal into live-drawn visual. This is why it’s valuable and why I love using it- as do many of my clients.
Studies show that people remember 10% of what they hear and 20% of what they read, but about 80 percent of what they see and do. – HP
Visualising rich content
I recently had the pleasure of providing the service for the fantastic team at the Community Foundation in Wales, a charitable business that promotes philanthropy in Wales. The foundation, along with the Fair Share Trust (a programme dedicated to improving and supporting communities with lottery funding), worked on a strategic grants programme to fund regenerative projects across targeted Welsh counties. With over £3Million distributed to over 30 different projects in ten years, there was a lot of information to gather and present at their celebratory conference.
I worked with the team to understand their vision and the essence of their funded programme, and to get a true feel for all the passion, dedication and hard work that had gone into making these projects a success – helping to transform the lives of so many communities in and around Wales.
Using graphic facilitation at their conference, I was able capture 10 years worth of hard work within a number of large, live-drawn visual maps- allowing their audience to see and understand what had been achieved within a short period of time. Liza Kellett, Chief Executive of CFiW said of the day: “It was such a fantastic success. You understood us, what we do and our essence so quickly, and then being able to capture that on the day was awesome. (Graphic Facilitation) added a unique dimension to our event and very importantly it captured ten years of work!”.
So, what are the benefits of using graphic facilitation?
• It allows you to capture that all important ‘goldust’
• It provides clarity and tells a story over a short time period
• It increases engagement for you and your audience
• It stimulates and drives motivation, creativity and better thinking for all!
